Gunhild Thomson: Photo Series “Derelict Locations in Birmingham and the Black Country”
Gunhild Thomson is a photography artist from Birmingham. Since 2011 and 2012 she has been documenting changes to derelict areas and buildings once a year: Sometimes hardly anything has happened in 10 years, in some places residential properties or industrial buildings have been built, sometimes a cleared area has found a temporary use.
Contrary to what she had initially intended, Gunhild has decided not show the complete series ( i.e. one photo per year), but has left out the sequences where little or no change has occurred instead photographing regular intervals ( e.g every 3 years) and now mainly shows series where there is change visible from one image to the next.
