Choose from a range of new classes and courses for all ages at The Core, starting from September
Professional journalist Wersha Bharadwa leads the ten-week Creative Writing course (Monday evenings from 9 September). You'll learn about different styles and formats of prose including fiction and non-fiction, generating, and developing ideas, genre, dialogue, structure, setting, narrative voice and lots more. More experienced writers can join The Write Space – a new ten-week course for those wishing to develop their writing skills further (Thursday evenings from 12 September).
Explore and experience different artforms with Swati Sinha, a professional artist based in Solihull. The four-week daytime Studio Kavachi Watercolour Course (Wednesday mornings from 11 September) welcomes artists of all levels and abilities, with further courses later in the term covering sketching & drawing, and mixed media.
The newly launched Core Youth Theatre is a fantastic opportunity for children and young people to develop their theatre skills and creativity in a fun, and engaging environment, under the guidance of professional theatre makers and actors Skylar Mabry and Kelly Casey. The group meets every Thursday from 12 September from 4.30pm-5.30pm (ages 7-10) and 5.45pm-7.15pm (ages 11-16).
The ten-week Introduction to Acting for Adults course (Thursday evenings from 19 September) will develop your acting skills in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. The course will include group exercises, drama games and improvisation, along with a range of approaches to acting techniques.
Light 52 is a ten-week photography course at beginner level (Thursday evenings from 26 September). The course is aimed primarily at digital SLR users but also suitable for compact and film camera enthusiasts.
Also starting on 26 September is a new ten-week Chinese Calligraphy course, where you’ll learn the stylised artistic writing of Chinese characters and symbols.
If you’ve ever wanted to be a stand-up comedian, the ten-week From Couch to Comedy course (Monday evenings from 30 September), led by comedian Rachel Sambrooks will take you through creative ways of writing and performing your own material and building your confidence on stage. The course culminates in you performing your own five-minute stand-up slot to an audience of friends and family!
